Freetown, 2nd July, 2015 – On Thursday 2nd July, the Vice President, Hon. Victor Foh, launched the Food and Nutrition Security Implementation Plan 2013-2017 at Radisson Blu, Mamie Yoko Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown. Over 150 government representatives from the Ministry of Health, Parliamentarians, Paramount Chiefs, UN Family, Donor Agencies and Civil Society attended this event hosted by SUN Secretariat.

High lighting the 8 priority areas in the plan, the Secretary to the Vice President Dr. Julius Sandy called on all partners to support these priorities which include; advocacy, promotion and facilitation of adequate national and household food security, adoption of appropriate feeding practices for vulnerable groups; preventive measures against nutritional and other related infectious diseases; provision of curative services to malnourished individuals, strengthening national surveillance systems and coordinating activities of relevant agencies involved in food and nutrition. He assured all partners of the government’s continued cooperation in efforts to end malnutrition in Sierra Leone.

On launching the plan, Hon. Vice President expressed his pride in being involved in this process honoring the government’s continued commitment to eradicating malnutrition and hunger in Sierra Leone. He stated that through collaboration the country would continue to make gains in the nutritional outcomes of children that will guarantee a healthy and prosperous future for the country.
